Recap
Hello peeps! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. Although I put up my little window lights to brighten up the atmosphere, the absence of snow made this Christmas a little gloomy. No matter! That’s not going to stop me from drawing my little annual festive illustration. And ride my bike on the 25th of December, I guess?!
After missing the Montreal Salon du livre, I registered for a table at the Christmas Comiccon. It was the perfect occasion to finally get a banner and get myself a proper trolley to haul all of my stuff around. I’m starting to have a lot of books and merch! Speaking of which, I got confirmation that I'm going to have my own table at MCAF in 2024. I haven't tabled at the festival by myself in years and I'm really, really looking forward to it.
The year is over so here is a mini compilation of illustrations in the “Art vs Artist” format. With me in the middle, during the December Comiccon.
My friend Ben hosts one of the oldest podcasts in the province called “Les Mystérieux Étonnants” which has a traditional live or filmed holiday special. He asked me to draw the participants (whom I all know) in a retro cartoon style for the bumpers between the segments. It was a lot of fun!
Announcements
Last minute addition to the shop: this Nuclear Winter print featuring the entire cast of the third volume. It’s a great gift to offer alongside the collected edition, wink wink.
At the end of the month, I’ll be going to Angoulême comic book festival. The coolest part is I’ll be traveling with lots of comic book friends. I can’t wait to tell you about it!
With Substack being pretty chill about hosting extremist right-wing and Nazi content, I’m looking to migrate my newsletter. I’m not sure where or how (I’m so tired, you guys) but I’ll keep you posted. Hopefully, I won’t break anything in the process.
That’s all for December! Keep your eyes peeled, I will post my recap of 2023 in the coming days, but chances are, it’ll be in French only. Here is the one for 2022, in English. I always enjoy doing this exercise and I hope you enjoy reading it. In the meantime, happy new year, friends!
Cool stuff
You know what, I'm just going to list cool stuff without separating them by categories from now on. That way, I don’t feel bad about having watched zero movies or reading long essays about internet culture instead of actual novels.
I skipped the album when it came out but I had the chance to see Karkwa perform at Métropolis and it was fantastic. I have been listening to Dans la Seconde since then.
Red Bull Illume Award Winners, given to sports and outdoor photographers. There are truly breathtaking shots.
She loves to cook, she loves to eat, is a wonderful shojo manga about a girl who cooks for her giant, stoic neighbour. The two develop something more than a shared passion for food… I loved the tone and seeing a big, tall woman in a girl manga. And the foooood!
The Boy and the Heron sure was… something, uh? Beautifully done, as usual, but I’m still not sure what it was about. I’m still super happy I got to see it in a theatre!
Nothing beats a good leftover sanwich. Happy new year, keep us in the loop on how you best choose a newsletter service/program, and keep being awesome!
Hope to see you in Angoulême!
