Recap
Hello my little birds! I hope you’re all doing well, during this Great Thaw and Garbage season. For my part, I’m currently head over heels in the process of apartment hunting while also getting ready for an audience at the Housing Court. It's taking a lot out of me but I'm not giving up! I'd rather be drawing instead, let's just say.
This whole situation is really distracting and I've been struggling a lot to start working on the scenario/storyboard for my next comic project L’Heure du Lunch. Once I got started for real though, it flowed right out of me! I wrote about the whole process of scripting/storyboarding on Patreon if you wanna read about it a bit more.
The new issue of the youth magazine Les DébrouillARTS, in which I drew a comic about fashion and aeeesssthhhetics, came out. I had a lot of fun doing that! I based my rabbit characters on the Untalkative Bunny, an obscure Canadian cartoon that aired on Teletoon in 2000, that I loved with a weird passion.
And finally: I couldn't skip over the big scandal that shook the bagel world: the no-hole bagel from the St-Viateur bakery. Bagels are a key item in Nuclear Winter and part of Flavie’s diet all throughout the series. Also, I miss drawing her!
Announcements
My dearest friend Boum is releasing her graphic novel The Jellyfish in English, this May. It’s a wonderful book, centered around a queer romance and a looming threat visible to only the protagonist. It’s funny, gripping, touching and very, very well drawn. Preorder it at your local bookstore or comic shop or through Chapters/Indigo if you’re in Canada!
Print of the month
In order to shine a little spotlight on some illustrations of mine, I present to you the print of the month! For the entire month of March, The Record Shop print will be up for sale, signed and/or dedicated on the back. As with signed books, you can tell me your dedication preferences in a note at the time of purchase. If you don't want a signature, no problem! Just tell me and no pencil will touch your purchase. Shipping is also free on this item for the entire month of March, in Canada and the United States.
This month’s print is “The Record Shop.”
Music takes up a lot of space in my world and I’m fond of my music-loving characters. Étienne, in Utown, is a music connoisseur and spends a lot of time in record stores. This is one of my favorite Utown-related illustrations, especially because of its palette and atmosphere.
+ PRINT OF THE MONTH: THE RECORD SHOP +
That’s all for February, folks! Try to read a good book this month, go out and get some of that vitamin D back in ya. I’ll see you all in April. As always, thanks for reading :)
Cool Stuff
Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree. A seven-foot orc warrior decides to open a café in a fantasy medieval town where no one knows what a latte is. Best book I've read this year.
On the theme “fantastic food”, I watched Delicious in Dungeon and I’m having a blast! The characters are endearing, the universe is simple but very ingenious and the animation is frankly above average for what we see on Netflix. Bonus points for all the cooking scenes!
Albums I'm listening to these days: the re-issue of the album 99th Dream by Swervedriver, originally released in 1998. Also, Fairy Rust by Wombo, a nice, slightly haunting post-punk album.
I bought myself a timer for classe/for children because I have trouble staying focused on one task at a time. Mine has a rainbow with a smiling cloud at the end and rainbow numbers and I LOVE IT.
I absolutely LOVED Untalkative Bunny! I follow a Twitter account that posts random stills from the show.
I've heard nothing but good stuff about Delicious In Dungeon, both the show and the manga. I should give it a watch this weekend.
